Dr. Fenner is a 1979 graduate of Washington
State University College of Veterinary Medicine, where he
received Bachelors degrees in zoology and veterinary
science in addition to Doctor of Veterinary
Medicine. Growing up in Seattle, he always knew that he
wanted to be a veterinarian. Upon graduation, he worked in a
small animal practice in Seattle, then in mixed animal practices in
Gig Harbor and Port Orchard, Washington. He found that
although he enjoyed horses, cattle, and other farm animals, his
passion was dog and cat medicine. He moved temporarily (he
thought) to California in 1981, working in a practice with a
board-certified ophthalmologist. He moonlighted at emergency
clinics, and later worked in a five-veterinarian small
animal hospital. All of these practice settings
have provided him a wealth of experience and learning.
Visiting friends in Poway, Dr. and Mrs.
Fenner fell in love with the area and decided that this was where
they wanted to live and work. They moved to Rancho Bernardo
in 1986, opening Bernardo Heights Veterinary Hospital in
1987.
Dr. Fenner enjoys all aspects of veterinary
medicine. He especially enjoys internal medicine, geriatrics,
surgery, and preventive care. He has a special interest in
the bond between pet owners and their pets. Dr. Fenner
regularly attends continuing education seminars on these and other
aspects of veterinary medicine. This enables us to keep
abreast of the latest medical and surgical developments in
veterinary medicine.
When away from the office, Dr. Fenner spends
time with his 6-year old son and wife, and his dog, seven cats,
guinea pigs, horse and goats. He enjoys reading and writing,
working on his house, gardening, and travelling whenever he
can.
